MCL #708 BRIEF HISTORY OF PROPERTY

Marine Corps League 708 was originally charted January of 1990. The first meetings were held at the Veterans of Foreign War Post on County Line Road in Spring Hill. Over time the Honor Guard was able to raise $50,000 and it was decided to buy the property on Sunshine Grove Road. This is where we sit today built in the year 2000. It took 2 years to get approval from the State of Florida to build a none cement slab building. Once approved the concrete that was needed, we were able to get donated. Marine Chick Conklin, general contractor & president of Shiloh Homes, builders and suppliers of most of the tradesmen for the woodwork to include members of 708. Marine Terry Burcaw, president of 41-Truss, project manager for this endeavor and member of the international Wood Council, which furnished most of the lumber. The Marines of 708 assisted throughout the process to include putting up the siding, painting, finishing work and so on. To this day the Marines, associate member, volunteers and patrons of 708 continue to maintain and improve their facility for the good of the League and Asper de corps!
